Well, let's assume you're in the first category. In that case, getting Yuu Yuu Hakusho in the US may not be as hard as you think it is.
Animeigo is thinking of releasing subtitled versions of YYH if they can get enough public support for the series. There's a poll up on their website, asking visitors which of four series they most want Animeigo to release in the near future.

Animeigo is one of the best companies for releasing quality translated anime in the US. They've released shows such as Oh! My Goddess and Kimagure Orange Road, and have a reputation for going to lengths to preserve the cultural elements of the series they translate. The translations themselves are some of the most accurate in the industry. These guys sound like the perfect company to release YYH.
