Name: Hasukawa Kazuya
aka: the normal one
Personality: Kazuya, or Suka, isn't the most easy-going person on the planet. Rather the opposite in fact, often obsessing over problems until he makes himself sick. He's really quite serious, generally refusing to join in the practical jokes and betting pools the rest of the dorm participate in. Suka also tends to be sensitive about his family life - falling in love with his sister-in-law is not his proudest moment and he resents being reminded of it. His lack of humor makes him the perfect target for Shinobu and Mitsuru. All else aside, though, Suka is noble almost to a fault. He joins in to rescue Mitsuru and Reina from Nagisa, and he places himself in danger to help the girl he cares about.
Background: Suka really is a "lone orphan." His parents died when he was very young, and he was raised by his older brother, Kazuhiro. As a result, he and his brother are very close. Unfortunately, Kazuhiro's recent marriage drove a wedge between the two. His bride, Sumire, is the woman Kazuya loves. Kazuya refuses to remain in that house and watch the woman he loves be the wife of another man, and departs for Ryokuto Academy. I suppose he thought living in the dorm would be calmer...
Name: Ikeda Mitsuru
aka: the cute one
Personality: Where to start, where to start... Mitsuru is one half of the ruling power of Greenwood - and Ryokuto for that matter - along with his roommate and best friend, Shinobu. He is a schemer and a charmer; his name can instantly reduce large portions of the female population of Tokyo to jelly. He is the dorm president of Greenwood his junior year and plans on training Kazuya to take his place. In many ways, Mitsuru plays the elder brother to Kazuya, maybe filling the role Kazuhiro once filled. He is much more easy-going on the surface, but he holds onto a lot of internal pain and suffers from the belief that he must separate himself from his family. The only one Mitsuru ever seems to be truly at ease around is Shinobu, and for his part, Shinobu seems to act as Mitsuru's shield and defense against his past and fears.
Background: It was a quiet spring day when the Ikedas left their home for the hospital as their son, Masato, was about to be born. Imagine their surprise when, beneath a tree near the edge of their property, they discover a small bundle, wrapped in a blanket. Inside was a baby, only two weeks old, abandoned to fate. The Ikedas took him in as their own, named him Mitsuru, and made him their eldest son. Mitsuru, however, fears that he doesn't truly belong inthe Ikeda family, and distances himself. he believes that one day, being adopted, his parents will expect him to leave. Living in the dorm at Ryokuto rather than his own home, which is a short distance from the school, is his way of preparing for that more permanent seperation - much to the disappointment and consternation of his family.
Name: Tezuka Shinobu
aka: the smart one
Personality: Intelligent, beautiful and devious, Shinobu is the other half of Greenwood's ruling power. He is the student body president, and what students don't respect him (pretty close to worship!) generally fear him and thus, stay out of his way. Power hasn't corrupted Shinobu, however, and aside from a few betting pools and elaborate practical jokes, Shinobu seems like the kind of person you'd want for a big brother or best friend. He's undeniably smart, and his plans never seem to fail, no matter how intricate or complicated they get. He often seems cold and unemotional, but we occasionally get a look at what he's really feeling: We've seen his anger at Nagisa, and we've seen real caring and concern for Mitsuru. Shinobu is a great guy and a good friend.
Background: Shinobu is the youngest child in what seems to be a fairly wealthy family. He has an older brother; Akira, and an older sister; the infamous, and insane, Nagisa. Growing up with a sister like Nagisa, it's unsurprising that Shinobu learned to control his emotions so well. Any weakness could be used against him, and so he had to hide any potential flaw. Now that he's older, Shinobu seems to avoid his family, living in the dorm and staying there over breaks. One can imagine that realtions in that family aren't particularly friendly.
Name: Kisuragi Shun
aka: the other one
Personality: Shun is a contradiction in terms. Bright and cheerful, he is Kazuya's roommate at Greenwood. Shun's physical appearance is that of a girl and this caused some initial confusion between him and Kazuya. Shun, along with Shinobu and Mitsuru, pretended to be a girl pretending to be a boy just to mess with Kazuya's mind. Unfortnately, this also messed with my mind and made it almost impossible for me to remember that Shun is really a boy! Despite this, there's no hidden shônen ai tendencies about Shun. He's bright, friendly and cheerful almost to a fault and probably Kazuya's best friend at Ryokurin.
Background: Shun's family runs an inn. Other than that, the anime tells us little about his family. HE has a younger brother named Raina and a younger sister name Yui. Raina, like Shun, has a very feminine appearance.
